Student Theatre Company brings the cosy world of Agatha Christie to life with flamboyance and enthusiasm.

Durham Student Theatre takes on Christie’ beloved Marple play with a cast and crew comprised of Durham University first year students.

Durham Student Theatre, the umbrella company heading up all theatre at Durham University is about to unleash its annual Freshers’ play, Agatha Christie’s ‘A Murder is Announced’ adapted by Leslie Darbon!  Everyone on the team is a first-year at the University, from the lead role Miss Marple to the director and producer, all of whom are bravely taking on their first show since leaving home.  They are mentored by a crew of experienced final-year students.  The play marks the beginning of the group’s campaign to fundraise for charity-campaign Movember.

Opening at the Sir Thomas Allen Assembly Rooms Theatre (40 North Bailey, DH1 3ET) on Thursday, 2nd of November and running until Saturday 4th November, the play sets Christie’s classic story in a normal Victorian living room, but with very lively caricatures of the suspects on the page.   It all starts with an advertisement appearing in The Chipping Cleghorn Gazette, announcing an imminent murder in Miss Blacklock’s home.  What ensues is classic Christie chaos, with mistaken identities, twists and turns, and a satisfying conclusion that will leave you kicking yourself.

Georgia Malkin, Assembly Rooms theatre coordinator says, “This delightful murder mystery is suitable for people of all ages and will delight Christie fans and theatre appreciators alike.  We really encourage everyone to come along – the event is open to all (not just Durham University students) and performances each evening start at 7 pm.”

Tickets are available from www.theassemblyroomstheatre.org/whats-on/ and are priced standard £7, under 18s/concessions £6.
