Rocket Theatre’s production of ‘The Nether’ is one that raises questions about our current technological climate and brutally exposes a potential future that we could be on a trajectory towards. The play is set partly in a new virtual wonderland that consists of a dizzying array of online realms to indulge all of your senses, and partly in a harrowing interrogation room in the real world. Throughout the play, we see a young female detective interrogating and attempting to prosecute participants from the Nether community for fulfilling some of their darkest desires in this virtual realm. The play is a stimulating performance which invites the audience to consider the ethics of technology, as well as whether crimes within ‘a life outside of consequence’, can be prosecuted.
